Here at WVUR we have what’s called “DJ of the month” which is a DJ or DJ’s that we feel exemplify what it means to be a WVUR DJ. For the month of October, the DJ’s that were chosen were Caleb Sanchez and Miguel Valencia.

Here is a little bit more about the both of them…

Caleb Sanchez

Year in school? Sophomore
Major? Computer Science

One interesting fact that you don’t mind sharing with the internet? I love to sing, even though I am terrible at singing.

What is the genre of your show and what makes it unique? Our show is a talk show, called “Geeks of the Week.” Its like a current events show where we talk about comics, movies, TV, and video game.

If you could pick any animal to be your spirit animal and why? My spirit animal would be a kitten, because kittens are cute, just like me.

Miguel Valencia

Year in school? Sophomore
Major? Creative Writing

What got you interested in radio? I love music. There doesn’t go a day without me listening to my iPod on my way to classes. Last year, my friend Tristan Good, you may or may not know him, was a DJ for the station and asked if I wanted to be guest on his show. After being on his show once I started showing up every week as a guest for his show. When this year started I made sure to sign up to be a DJ for the station.

What is the genre of your show and what makes it unique? Our show is called “Geeks of the Week”, and it is in the form of a talk show with music breaks scattered throughout the show. The type of music we play varies between rock and alternative rock. What makes our show unique is that we use the two hours given to us to talk about the current scene revolving comics, movies, TV shows, and video games. There are many podcasts that do the same as us but I’ve yet to come across a radio station that has a show dedicated to the lifestyle of a geek. The best part of our show is that its very liberal and easy going. What I mean is that even though we’ll have set topics we don’t mind getting side tracked by something and just running with it for awhile. I believe this gives our show a real and genuine feel to it.

If you could pick any animal to be your spirit animal and why? My spirit animal would be a sea otter because they live the life I want. A life where you float on your back in water and hold hands with other otters all day.

You can listen to Caleb and Miguel on Wednesday nights from 8-10 for Geeks of the Week

You can also listen in to Caleb and Miguel’s individual shows, Caleb’s is on Tuesday’s from 3-5 and Miguel’s is on Friday’s from 3-5.
