This past weekend I was fortunate enough to be able to attend Justin Timberlake’s concert at the United Center for the 20/20 Experience Tour. While I consider myself to be a pretty well-seasoned concert goer, I had never been to a pop show before, let alone for an artist as well-known as JT. Having been a fan for a long time I was excited to see how the man himself faired against his hit records, and I found that he proved to be a greater musician than I had ever considered him to be before.
From the moment he sang the first few bars of “Pusher Lover Girl” it was obvious that the night was going to be incredible. His live band “The Tennessee Kids” was impeccable, made up of a horn section, back-up singers, two drum sets, and a keyboardist. His incorporation of dance, live musicians, and singing were well balanced and there was never a moment where I felt that he could have done more with a song. Some of the highlights of the night included his stripped down intro to “What Goes Around, Comes Around”, a cover of Bell Biv DeVoe’s “Poison”, and his encore performance of his big hit “Sexy Back” tied into his grand finale of “Mirrors”. I sang, I danced, I laughed, and as a whole had the biggest fan girl moment of my life. Using his hit songs from all four of his albums he was able to create a show that welcomed the old fans and new ones alike. His talent, charm, and charisma lit up his performance, and I would recommend for anyone to go and see him perform. I know I will be seeing him again in the future.
