Why Pink’s Oscar Performance Was Perfect

On Sunday, March 2, the 85th annual Oscar awards show was held. Toward the end of the show, Pink took the stage to sing “Over the Rainbow” in tribute to Judy Garland and her children. Dressed in a glittering red gown to mimic the iconic ruby slippers, she belted out a fantastic rendition of the popular tune while footage from The Wizard of Oz played on a screen overhead.

Now, I’m typically not one for covers. I tend to prefer the original versions of songs, simply because that’s what they are- original. Artists sometimes ruin a beautiful ballad or powerful piece when they try to perform a song “in their own style.” However, I was blown away by the heart Pink brought.

Her performance was deep and the soul in her voice was true. I’m not a devoted fan, either. I know two, maybe three of her songs. But I can honestly say that this is one cover I would definitely download off iTunes, should they sell it.
